We use our hands every day in almost everything we do – from writing to driving, eating, or holding our loved one’s hand. When you have pain in your hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and fingers it can make doing the simplest of tasks difficult or impossible. Our team of hand and upper extremity specialists are here to get you back to where you need to be. 
Our multidisciplinary approach to injuries and disorders of the hand and upper extremity involves not only board-certified surgeons but also hand therapists, and physicians in other disciplines including rheumatology and dermatology. We are experts in state-of-the-art operative and non-operative care. The goal of hand surgery is to improve functionality and flexibility, as well as to improve the appearance of the hand. Meet the Team

Andrew Matson, MD

Dr. Matson is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hand surgery. He cares for patients with both acute and chronic conditions in the upper extremities ranging from the shoulder to the hand. Dr. Matson offers both surgical and nonsurgical management options for problems such as arthritis, nerve conditions, tendon/ligament tears, fractures, or overuse conditions. He particularly enjoys helping patients restore function and return to active lifestyles.

Dr. Matson completed his undergraduate studies at Middlebury College with a degree in Biochemistry, where he graduated magna cum laude while also playing football and baseball. He then returned home to Rhode Island, where he attended Brown University Medical School and graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honor society distinction. Dr. Matson completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina, and his Hand/Upper Extremity fellowship at Harvard in Boston, MA.

Steven Graff, MD

Dr. Steven Graff is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with more than 30 years of experience, specializing in hand and microvascular surgery. He treats conditions like hand fractures, nerve injuries, and soft tissue damage, offering both surgical and nonsurgical options. Dr. Graff has been with Care New England Orthopedics and Sports Medicine since - focusing on complex hand procedures and trauma care.

Dr. Graff graduated magna cum laude in Biochemistry from Harvard University and earned his MD from Columbia University, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and a fellowship at The Indiana Hand Center.

Scott D. Allen, MD

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a subspecialty in hand surgery, Dr. Allen has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures. These include arthroscopic shoulder surgery for rotator cuff repair, endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery as well as treatment of arthritis, nerve-related syndromes, tendon repair, fractures, and sports-related injuries of the upper extremity.

His approach to care is to take the time to listen and understand his patients and discuss the options that will best meet their needs. A native Rhode Islander, Dr. Allen grew up in Warwick, RI.
