Stereotactic Breast Biopsy (SBB)

This is a new technology that helps diagnose breast lesions that are not palpable but are seen on mammography. Tissue samples are taken using computer-assisted x-ray techniques to place a needle precisely within the lesion.

Advantages to SBB include:

  • Done as an outpatient procedure
  • No anesthesia required

The stereotactic breast biopsy will be performed by a board-certified radiologist who has received additional training in this procedure.

Bone Densitometry

One of every two women past menopause has osteoporosis, a disease characterized by bone loss and susceptibility to fracture. Osteoporosis is preventable and treatable.

A diagnostic tool called a bone densitometer can accurately measure the health of your bones, detecting osteoporosis in its early stages.

Bone densitometry:

  • Takes only 5 to 20 minutes to complete.
  • Involves no injections.
  • Is painless and non-invasive.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a technology that uses high-frequency sound waves to create a picture of the inside of the body on a monitor screen. It is a very safe, non-invasive procedure.

Ultrasound is used to examine:

  • Breasts
  • Female pelvis
  • Abdomen
  • Thyroid
  • Vascular system
  • Pregnancy in all three trimesters

Kent Hospital's Ultrasound Department uses up-to-date equipment and experienced certified technologists to provide high-quality images for diagnostic use. The images are interpreted by the department's board-certified radiologists, who promptly report results to your physician.
